In this activity, participants will learn the basics of tapestry weaving in a playful environment. Results will be surprising. You will experiment with unusual materials to create colourful textures and shapes while listening to music to help inspiration. Loom and materials will be provided and you will keep the loom for yourself. Program includes:
Getting acquainted with the materials (e.g. yarns, fabrics, etc.); notions of tapestry; looms; warp and weft; a little bit of history; how to begin and how to lock a weaving.
In collaboration with Culture Days and the Neighbourhood Arts Network, Toronto Public Library hosts Toronto-based artists and arts organizations in a celebration of arts and culture at library branches throughout the city of Toronto. Culture Days @ The Library takes place September 28-20, 2012. Check out this year’s lineup and make a personalized schedule at http://culturedays.ca/en/2012-activities

Bursary

I'm so glad to tell that the Toronto Guild of Spinners and Weavers made me a recipient of their 2012 Bursary. In retribution they ask me to weave a tapestry for May 2013 and in that May meeting I'll have to show them the tapestry and explain the techniques I used to make it.For that I've told them I'll use one of my very artistic granddaughter's designs. She is just five but her "artworks" are amazingly good. I hope I dont sound like a very proud grandma. I keep her drawings in a folder and being in the process of weaving a scribble when I blew it up to the seize I wanted to acheive I realized that everything is in a "golden proportion"! and that was fascinating for me. I will be showing the work in progress very soon.
Thank you to my fellow members!

Meaning and explanations are provided in older posts in this blog except for the middle sculpture which is new. It's name: "Open the gates of the Garden of Eden".
